Our first haul out was performed at the now sold company of Waterway Marine Under the care of Bill Estes. In fact when she was new in 1980 she was launched from his crane.
We quickly learned local knowledge and the requirement of basic snacks onboard when going to a haul out in the winter. We had to make a 6 am tide and she wasn’t going to be pulled till 8 am and we wanted to be there to help watch. We were both starved and we looked in cabinets for snacks none. So we decided we would settle for a bottle of water opened the fridge and nothing but ice cold Bud. Hence began a tradition of drinking a cold beer for breakfast when going to the yard. Little did we know how the Ice Cold Bud in fridge would come in handy.
While pulled out we decided to replace all the plastic thru-hulls with bronze ones. We started the job around 3 or 4 pm and as it goes nothing goes quite right and 5 pm was coming near and we had the wrong drill bit. when we asked Bill for a bit and some help at 4:45 he was quick to tell us work stops at 5 and that it would be Bud time. We gave him a bunch of cold ones and we all worked together and got it done and formed a lasting relationship.
